ABOUT THE PROJECT
To mark the 740th anniversary of Liptovský Mikuláš, Nights of Light brings 16 unique light installations to the city's streets. Through light, projection and modern technology, they bring the city's history, symbols and atmosphere to life.
What will you experience along the route?
The installations form a continuous circuit through the pedestrian zone of the historic city centre. The route is designed to guide you naturally from one installation to the next, gradually revealing the city's story.
Which places will light up?
The atrium of the County House, home to a little-known stained-glass work by artist Ester Šimerová-Martinčeková, will come to life in an entirely new way. The Metamorphoses Fountain will also take on a new artistic form. Through its installations, the festival will also evoke the Demands of the Slovak Nation, explore the theme of freedom and recall the former Jewish shops surrounding the Church of St Nicholas.
Who's behind the festival?
The project brings together an international team of 12 artists from Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine and the Netherlands, led by LuminaVerse. The light installations are being created in Liptovský Mikuláš in collaboration with local craftspeople and regional suppliers.
The Festival and Technology
The festival's technical setup in the city centre includes more than 500 metres of cables, 140 lights, 12 lasers and 6 projectors. Each installation combines imagery, light, sound and atmosphere.
ACCOMPANYING EVENTS
OPENING SHOW · 17 OCTOBER AT 18:00
We'll launch Nights of Light at the Metamorphoses Fountain in Liptovský Mikuláš with a unique LED dance show by PROXIMAshow.
FRIDAYS AT THE JANKO KRÁĽ MUSEUM
As part of the accompanying programme, the Janko Kráľ Museum will offer special evening opening hours until 20:00.
MUSIC AT THE LUTHERAN CHURCH
From 18:00 to 20:00, the Lutheran Church will offer a unique atmosphere of live music. On the first Saturday, enjoy the majestic sound of the organ, while the following Friday, Trio Luana will fill the church with music.
GUIDED TOUR OF THE GALLERY GARDEN
Discover Art in the Gallery Garden at the P. M. Bohúň Liptov Gallery. Join a guided tour with participating artists to explore the works on display and hear the stories and ideas behind their creation. 21 OCTOBER AT 17:00
